70 year ago tonight my father was born, in my grandmothers house in Portaferry while my grandfather was up in Belfast In the Home guard working his way around houses to get them to keep their curtains closed. Strange to see history from so may angles. Is it from my grandmothers perspective lying in bed listening to planes going up Strangford lough about to bomb Belfast when going into labour with her first child? Is it from my grandfathers perspective walking around Belfast hearing the airoplanes coming, worrying about his wife in labour?
History or Herstory two different perspectives both equally valid, this is what was going threw my head when I went to have a look at the artifacts on display in the libary on the Newtownards Road, ration books black and white photos, there is also an exhibition on in the City Hall about the Blitz. Where I live now a house a few doors down took a direct hit in the Blitz and was demolished. Strange to think of that feeling of bombs coming down not knowing where they will drop. That daily worry of attack. Has it gone? From the air certainly but in some places it's still a daily worry.
Still elections coming up that should sort a few things out ? /////?????So go and have a look at the exhibitions get a snapshot of history from a different perspective.
