Elaine is a coming-of-age drama about a schoolgirl in the early 1990’s who becomes involved with a group of animal-rights activists. What commences is a Rite-of-Passage that puts personal identity against political crisis in a visually poetic and painfully humorous short fiction film, written and directed by an independent artist-filmmaker.
Shootings scheduled for one week from 12th November between Banbridge and Newry.
Siobhan
20-27 year old female Hunt Saboteur of student origin dressed and made up in the late 80’s-early 90’s Goth tradition. Carries herself with a graceful confidence. Admired by Elaine, her young charge. Kind, but self-interested. Looks up to Matthew with whom she has a mild crush on. Two days shooting with two scenes involving dialogue.
Elaine
15-17 year old schoolgirl protagonist from middle-class suburban background. Slightly awkward and understated in her looks. She possesses a blankness as her personality and image are still undefined, although she is clearly influenced by the ‘alternative’ music scene of the time, this is not readily apparent in her dress or hairstyle. Strong single-minded intentions indicate a buried inner-steel.
Matthew
25-30 year old seasoned and experienced animal-rights activist, dresses in grunge-y combat army gear. Preferably English accent or ‘posh’. Good looks that earn him attention and admiration from Siobhan. Very serious about the cause, verging on arrogance. Two days shooting with two scenes involving dialogue.
Female Hunt Saboteur
19-30 years old, hippy, grunge-y aesthetic, brightly dyed hair. Two scenes with no dialogue and action running scene involved.
Male Hunt Saboteur 1
28-36 year old, militant Territorial Army/survival fanatic type. Two days shooting with no dialogue and action running scene involved.
Male Hunt Saboteur 2
19-27 year old floppy haired/dreadlocked ‘Crusty’ type. Has a wildness about him, smokes rollies. Two days shooting with no dialogue and action running scene involved.
Please note: this film is self funded, so every role will be voluntary, but we will cover transport and food. All actors will receive a copy of the finished film on DVD and be invited to the first screening.
