mightier than the word

I have just laboured over  previews of several upcoming exhibitions around Ireland. Without doubt, they were the most overblown, uneccessary and drivel laden pieces of text I have encountered for some time. I am sure the events which were being promoted are very worthy projects but I fear that the authors of these texts did not have enough confidence in their events  to describe them simply , effectively and without the need to hide behind a curtain of over used artspeak.

IMMA 'Twenty'

I have just started the fun bit of the PhD - interviewing practitioners and professionals involved in textile art. This took me to Dublin this week to interview the Head of Fashion and Textiles at NCAD, Helen McAllister, and the Head of Embroidery Nigel Cheney. I then dropped in at IMMA to see what was on, and was interested to find that in the exhibition 'Twenty' two of the artists had used textile techniques and materials as part of their artworks.
