Connect to Art and change in Northern Ireland
To do a residency or not that is the question ?
Artists residency's, there are websites devoted to them and sometimes you wonder if you could spend your whole life going from one to another but I've just returned from my first one ever. The Inishlacken project has been run by, the very enthusiastic artist Rosie McGurran for 12 years. Every year she invites a selection of artists to come and spend some time on the Island that Gerard Dillon spent a year on in the 50's. Gerard Dillon brought up on the Falls Road went to Inishlacken as he…

Hiatus
Wow, it's been a very long time since I was last on here, which is terrible of me. I've been very busyy and now that I'm free to focus on my own personal stuff I'll hopefully be a bit more active here.
Things are going well. Some time next week I should be putting prints up for sale in Pin.Up, the little shop in Belfast City Centre across from Grand Central (which is now a studio space/gallery I believe?). It would be lovely if that was even a little successful. If you're ever down…

Recovering and International Video art day
Another year another degree show the urge to keep on creating just does not stop. I took a second and third look around the Degree and MFA shows last week and was particularly impressed by the Ceramics and Photography. All the photography seemed to have a strange stillness in it. I wonder if it's a trend? Leonardo De Vinchi 's at The Ulster Museum was well attended on the first day. Although the 10 pieces are small there is something of the immediacy of drawing that takes you back directly…

Who looks at what on the site? the results.
I though I might share with all the members a selection of what exactly people come to look at on the site and maybe encourage you all to keep your profiles up to date. Google analytic s helps keep a score on all aspects of the site and what people are looking at. The location of people who use the site mostly are Belfast , followed by Dublin , Edinburgh and Denmark? Go figure. Outside of searching for the site itself what brings people here the most if they are not members is actually…

Creativity is pouring out of everywhere........long may it continue.
A damp late night art last week it was good to still see people out and about supporting the event, now we are supposed to be gliding into a couple of months of quieter gallery activity but as I sit down to make up the list from this week it really does not feel like it. I managed to see Warning this is Contemporary art gallery that opened recently and it makes a good edition to the Belfast art scene and we will all be looking forward to what ever it shows next. It shows there is an…

Belfast is moving forward but looking back....
After working with Iraq veterans against the war it was interesting to come home to the exhibition at Belfast Exposed, Open shutters Iraq, giving yet another series of perspectives on just what is going on in the country. It was in particular the women's perspectives that rang true with a different kind of voice. The worry, the fear, the getting on with day to day life, as best you can. The incredible resilience. The exhibition is printed on a series of large stickers making…
