The Lisburn Road is getting worried!!!
The funny thing about spending alot of time down town, by this I mean the Cathedral quarter, you notice things that other people dont, I mean I notice that the Lisburn Road is getting worried. Someone last week went around the Cathedral quarter and chalked up i love the Lisburn Road, as if they were really a little desperate. Amazing how a shift happens in a city. Five years ago would you have had that?? not at all, not really at all. So it's a little Belfast shift going on. Beautiful day…

Belfast's revolution continues
As Belfast revolution continues on the Art front what exactly are you going to get up to over the next bank holidays?? Is it possible to follow the art scene and have children? Do the Easter holidays seem long already ?? Still a week to go. Well this week the Cathedral quarter Arts festival and the festival of fools gets underway. Children need to see Art as well you know so why not bring them along to an opening. Some openings start at 5pm some children are always there but not enough in my…

MR WOODS COLLECTION
By Dylan Molloy
@ Frame Of Mine, 164 Ormeau Road (until 28th April)
Big, bold, brazen, black and white and rather beautiful ‘tres moderne’ nudes.Dylan Molly puts much work into his pleasure, and the results are often stunning. With little more than charcoal and paper, they're
decidedly in your face, unashamedly brash, and doubtless to some, no-holds barred provocation. I like…

SWANSONGS by Stephen Shaw
at
Group Space, Ulster Hall (until 30th April)
GIVING THE DORMANT LIFE
Stephen is a superlative chronicler of the wasted, abandoned and lost. What has been all but forgotten, left to rot, he points to and highlights, quietly with deft precision. He has an…

The international street theatre Festival of Fools returns to Belfast for the 8th year this May Bank Holiday Weekend- 28th April - 2nd May 2011.
This fabulous, family-friendly, free festival would not be so successful if it wasn't for our dedicated and wonderful team of volunteers helping ensure the event runs smoothly and making sure the public are…

My grandfather in the blitz
70 year ago tonight my father was born, in my grandmothers house in Portaferry while my grandfather was up in Belfast In the Home guard working his way around houses to get them to keep their curtains closed. Strange to see history from so may angles. Is it from my grandmothers perspective lying in bed listening to planes going up Strangford lough about to bomb Belfast when going into labour with her first child? Is it from my grandfathers perspective walking around Belfast hearing the…

Thanks for all the input.
I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who is adding information, events ,pictures and comments to the site. I think there is a really strong vibrant Art community around and we do not always blow our own trumpet. Is'nt it wonderful that new technology can make this all happen? It can be quite isolating working away on your own or even in a group setting. But one of the very strong reasons for me to do this is before I moved back into the Art world. I did not see it anywhere. I am…

..the following was first published on 3rd sept 2010 .........
this morning we read of the inevitable and quite severe cuts being made in the arts sector for northern ireland.
Firstly, anyone who knows me, knows how much I detest greedy fat cats particularly those who got the country into this mess by living and borrowing as if there were no consequences.
As always those hurt most are the people who may lose their jobs at the 'front end' ( one way or another top…

Art in the daylight last night
It's so lovely this time of year to wonder around the city centre looking at all the creativity going on.Each exhibition has it's own idea behind it, some have been in conception stage for two years, others up and organised in a much shorter time but the time and energy and creativity involved is just staggering. Last night we had artist's showing from Japan, New Zealand, USA, Dublin, Bangor, Belguim, Belfast (North, South, East and West) . I bumbed into much of the artistic community out…
