Artist statement/gallery statements/or comments
I have had a career for the last 20 years as a make-up artist in Film and Television in Northern Ireland. As a self taught painter I have had a life long interest in art. Four years ago I decided that I wanted to formally train in Art and Design so after I completed a foundation year studying Fine Art, I continued my studies and in May I will complete a three year Higher National Diploma in Fine Art. For the last two years, I have been studying the human form. I attended life drawing classes and then experimented using different mediums such as ink, spray paints, oil paint and bitumen in paintings and drawings. Then I applied these mediums on a variety of surfaces such as glass, board and canvas to decide which had the best outcome. I have been influenced by Picasso's Cubist paintings and also Amedeo Modigliani's line drawings. My ultimate challenge was to push my boundaries away from exact representations of the human form towards abstraction.
