Apart from selling some art to raise funds for causes in Africa I am quite "hands on" in that I ask for donations of left over wool to use to crochet patchwork blankets and baby clothes to go there for the needy. I would appreciate any bits of wool to use. I also have a man in Gambia who can fix mobile phones. Hadim will fix any he can or use parts from them to fix others. I had two favourite subjects at High School: Art and English Literature. I was encouraged in both by good teachers, and wrote poems which appeared in the school's yearly publication of pupils work. That was the root of my inspiration although I loved to study the poems of James Joyce, Alfred Lord Tennyson and all the War Poets when at school. Since I am both a published poet and freelance writer as well as artist and was involved with Commonword in Manchester and the Manchester Poetry Festival, I am now in discussions with some other writers in the Greater Belfast area to set up a Diversity writing group. The aim is to write about our diversity, and to stage live peotry slams or spoken word events and to seek publication of an anthology promoting acceptance of diversity.
