Artist statement/gallery statements/or comments
Joanne Proctor is a multi-disciplinary Northern Irish artist whose practice is informed by addressing concepts of nature and human identity, with the concept of ‘time’ being inherent in her working processes, created through highly intricate and repetitive actions. Many of the interweaving and complex aspects within her practice include identity, memory, mapping, origins, time, change & mortality and are often portrayed with a fragile quality or enigmatic and sometimes surreal characteristics. Such works are driven by our need as humans to question and find meaning in life. Psychological and spiritual aspects often feature with many works having symbolic meaning.

Proctor’s work often explores biological and medical imagery and organic forms particularly the building blocks of humanity including DNA, blood cells and the reproductive system. As well as drawing, painting and collage, she often uses her hair as a material which is sewn into paper or canvas, thus incorporating aspects of her own body in her work.

Works at F.E. McWilliam Gallery & Studio.
