Artist statement/gallery statements/or comments
I've spent the last 3 years studying contemporary art practices at Leeds Met and about to graduate with a degree in contemporary art practices. I'm about to move back home to Belfast and I'm very much out of the loop with the Belfast art world and would like to get back into it. I'm looking to work with other artist's, find studio space and also find workshops where i can learn more skills to develop my practice.
I'll upload photos of some of my work over the next days when i'm able to locate them on my Computer but please feel free to have a look at some of the little amount of work that i have Uploaded on my tumbler page
Below is a bit about my practice and what I've created over the past few years.
What is a mistake in the art world? Is failure the point where you stop what you are creating or is failure a positive thing when you continue what you are creating and see where it leads?
Over the past three years, I have been inspired by many different people and sources. Some of my earlier work I would say is similar to Jackson Pollock’s work. From what I have seen of his work he uses the whole colour spectrum and in this way my work is different as I am reluctant to use dark colours. The most notable influence on my work would have to be Anish Kapoor. His sculptures gave me inspiration to start doing sculptures myself. After I saw the video of “Shooting into the Corner,” I decided to experiment with sculptures and wax. Along the way, I have created unexpected pieces of art which have involved bright colours and different mediums. My most recent work has involved wax on MDF and ceramic pots but, when taking photographs of this work in progress, I realized I had another art form and began to view the photographs not as a record of my work but as standalone pieces of work. The video has completed this year’s work.
