Purely Poetry is a monthly night open mike poetry night at the CRESCENT ARTS CENTRE in Belfast.



Formed in October 2011, after the success of the Belfast heat of the All-Ireland Poetry Slam at the Belfast Book Festival, the event happens on the first Friday of every month. We seek to provide an open, supportive and relaxed platform for poets to share their work and listen to others.

Things need to happen in order for us to talk:

we must have subject.

 

So button up your shirtsleeves and subject yourself

to the exterior world;

become that desired object of sociability,

that lost answer to your whispered prayer.

 

Jesus, my laptop is on mains supply,

and I will no longer by interrupted in my writing

by a draining battery sucking up my time.

 

Jesus, I have heated the hot water…
