I suppose it is good for artists who make big work that cannot be moved easily for the rua/rha dropoff days and the like it is a great solution.  But for smaller artworks I think they need to be viewed in reality to be appreciated properly.

I agree Susan, it's a great way to show work that is too heavy and/or large to transport for a viewing, but for smaller works, then seeing the actual artwork is preferable as looking at numerous pic's on a laptop or whatever makes them all seem quite similiar and great work can be easily overlooked!

Something Ive noticed when I get images on the site, I think I know what they are like and then in real life they look completely different because of the scale I imagined is completely off. I just wonder how selectors get past this.

Yeah, it is like looking at a photograph of a famous painting in an art book and then you go on holiday and see the real thing in a museum and are totally blown away by it. ( Or the opposite ahem 'Mona Lisa' lol)

yes the Mona Lisa ,it had the same effect on me.

the Mona Lisa is a classic example of something that is a victim of its fame - a Damn fine painting (though in my opinion it is very far from being the greatest work of art ever - in fac there are a couple of paintings in the same room that rate higher for me) - it has become so ingrained in our cultural psyche that we all know it intimately and in glorious high defintion too - in real life it seems like a small dark and shabby painting behind thick green glass.

as for digital submissions? way of the world now I guess - (it works well for animations though, so I can't complain)
