hahaha...too right Paul!
Methinks RUA show could do with a boost this year......perhaps an intervention of some sort!
I leave it up to all the imaginative and spontaneous among you to surprise us...and make us smile!!!!
Permalink Reply by Stephen Shaw on June 7, 2012 at 17:49 Maybe you should enter something, Royce?
Hmmm............indeed! Have to be next year!
Permalink Reply by James Mercer on June 8, 2012 at 13:49 Oh i feel like having a rant again this year. No application sent to me this year again all because of a flippant remark at 2010 collecting day. (over heard by an academician, and my wife asked me what was the black X doing on the back of my shirt when i got home.) I have discovered there is no humour in the art world except for some of the art put in by the elite.
Ah well i shall keep on doing my art but never on a sunday Ben.
Permalink Reply by Paul McCarroll on June 8, 2012 at 16:57 did you apply James, or have you just been de-listed?
I really don't understand the reverence around such things.
Permalink Reply by rosie mcgurran on June 8, 2012 at 18:28 If only the RUA did get that sort of money for every art work shown. The cost of the annual exhibition is not cheap, all works are professionally handled from submission to exhibition. The President and Council of the RUA are all practicing artists who give their time freely, all contributions from the Academic body during the annual and throughout the year is voluntary.

How much is the ulster museum charging to host?
just interested, your statement of 'not cheap' doesn't really mean a lot

Permalink Reply by rosie mcgurran on June 8, 2012 at 21:21 I do not have that information on hand Paul, I am sure if you asked the office at the R.U.A they would help you with answers. In context, the annual is a very well attended show and a showcase for aspects of the visual arts in Northern Ireland, the academy is evolving with new ideas and projects at present and aims to exist beyond just one annual exhibition.
Permalink Reply by Paul McCarroll on June 8, 2012 at 21:36 I can't really comment on the content that much since I've never been to one of these, but if it's in the museum I'll catch this one.
I am pretty sure that those questions have been asked before and met with just as much ambiguity.
I have issues with the whole pay to play competition and fancy art clubs thing anyway. Thankfully, I have no real desire to be a part of any of it, or waste what little money I have for a 5% shot at an ego boost.
Permalink Reply by rosie mcgurran on June 8, 2012 at 21:46 Paul, I am answering you with "ambiguity" because I don't actually live in Belfast so I am not able to attend every council meeting. I wish you all the best with your work and every success without having to be in ego boosting exhibitions etc
absa-feking-lootly!
