Event Description

Stuart Calvin is a Belfast based artist whose installation, sculptural and photographic work draws on familiar
symbolism from magic, mysticism and the occult. His work explores incorporeal worlds, supernatural experiences
and the human propensity to venerate and fetishise objects. ‘The Moment Between’ is an exploration
of supernatural experiences, manifestation of energy, frequency and consciousness. The Artist looks to empty
spaces, dark corners, unseen forces, the moments around death and passage to the great beyond.
Stuart is the first winner of the annual Gerard Dillon Gallery award, presented by Cultúrlann’s visual arts panel at the
University of Ulster’s graduate show.
On display in the Dillon Gallery until 7 June.

Dr. Aisling O’Beirn, Associate Lecturer in Sculpture at the University of Ulster
will open this exhibition on Thursday, 26 April 2012 at 7:00pm

An t-ealaíontóir Stuart Calvin, atá lonnaithe i mBéal Feirste, baineann sé feidhm as siombalachas aitheanta na
draíochta, an mhisteachais agus na briotaise ina shaothar suiteála, dealbhóireachta agus grianghrafadóireachta.
Téann a shaothar i ngleic le domhain mheitifisiciúla agus le heispéireas osnádúrtha, agus
leis an chlaonadh sa duine a thugann air urraim a thabhairt do réada agus feitis a dhéanamh díobh. Is taiscéalaíocht
é ‘An tIdirbhomaite’ ar an eispéireas osnádúrtha agus ar léiriú fuinnimh, minicíochta agus
comhfhiosachta. Bíonn an t-ealaíontóir ag plé le háiteanna folmha, dorcha, le fórsaí dofheicthe, leis an bhás
agus le slí na fírinne. Is é Stuart céad bhuaiteoir dhuais bhliantúil Dhánlann Gerard Dillon, arna bronnadh ag
painéal amharcealaíon na Cultúrlainne as taispeántais chéimithe Ollscoil Uladh.
Ar taispeáint i nDánlann Dillon go dtí 7 Meitheamh.

Osclóidh an Dr Aisling O’Beirn, Léachtóir Comhlach i nDealbhóireacht ag Ollscoil Uladh
an taispeántas seo, Déardaoin 26 Aibreán 2012 ag 7:00in
